Moors Valley Country Park

Although not within the Civil Parish, the Country Park is situated immediately south of Verwood. It is a joint venture between Dorset Council and Forestry England. The Country Park and Forest consist of 1,000 acres of woodland, heathland, meadow, lakes, and rivers.

At the park’s heart is the Visitor Centre, an 18th-century timber barn that houses the Seasons Restaurant and Coffee Barn, a gift shop, and the ‘Ranger Den’ nature education area.

For those wishing to get out and about, there are plenty of way-marked walks, cycle routes, and cycle hire with child seats and trailers. For the less able, wheelchairs or electric scooters are available to hire.

For children, there is an adventure play area for juniors, a castle and sand works for infants, plus the Play Trail – unique wooden play sculptures set around a 1-mile trail within the forest. For the more adventurous, there is the ‘Go Ape’ tree-top adventure course set in the trees. There is also a narrow-gauge steam railway and an 18-hole golf course.

Discover Adventure Valley, our new activity zone, located just 180 metres from the Visitor Centre, featuring Adventure Golf and miniature Land Rovers. A Health and Activity Centre also offers a full programme of walks and cycle rides throughout the year for adults.

There are no entrance charges to Moors Valley but vehicle charges do apply. Access by road is from Horton Road, Ashley Heath, approximately one mile from the Ashley Heath roundabout in the direction of Three Legged Cross. On foot from Verwood, there is a pathway through Potterne Park playing fields. From here it is about one mile to the Visitor Centre.

Moors Valley Rangers can be contacted at the Visitor Centre between 9am and 5pm:
